Services to the Disabled
The Los Angeles County WorkSource California system connects businesses
and job seekers in an effort to improve the overall community and quality
of life for residents. Overseeing these efforts and setting policy is
the responsibility of the LA County Workforce Investment Board (WIB).
The WIB’s vision is to integrate services in the centers to provide
universal access to career and labor market information, and help customers
make informed choices about the future.
There are seventeen WorkSource Centers operated by Los Angeles County.
They are all fully accessible and successfully serve persons with disabilities.
The Centers serve hundreds of individuals and has been very successful
in placing a good number of them in unsubsidized employment. The following
types of assistive technology may be found in any WorkSource Center, Resource
Room:
- Dragon Naturally Speaking Professional and Dragon Dictate Pro
(For those who cannot use hands or arms)
- Computer system
- Printer
- Application software for vision impaired
- Braille Printer System
- Zoom Text Software
- Large Print Keyboard
- Scanner
- JAWS for the Internet
- Arkenstone Open Book Reader
- Earphones
- Adjustable tables
- Accessible copiers
- Telephones
- TTY Machine
Use of this technology is free and is part of core services provided at
the Centers. Additionally, for those who cannot afford the added expense,
donated interview clothing and/or a clothes closet is available.
